Suikerpark Phase 2 – Subphase 2 in Veurne, designed by Areal Architecten and DENC-studio, continues the transformation of the former sugar factory site into a sustainable residential district in collaboration with ION, the City of Veurne, and WVI. The permit for this phase has been recently submitted and includes 17 single-family homes, 15 outbuildings, and one apartment building with 12 units, arranged around green courtyards and wadi systems. The use of light brick, green-grey joinery, and concrete accents anchors the architecture in Veurne’s local tradition. Outbuildings with green roofs link private gardens to shared outdoor spaces, forming an ecological living fabric. The district is car-free and energy-efficient, connected to a district heating network and supported by ESCO and WASCO systems for collective energy and water management. A future phase adds 28 apartments and an underground car park, completing this regenerative urban neighbourhood.
